We don’t do retroactive promotions. Managers are responsible for working on the promotions in a timely manner to be applicable on the desired Effective date.

Once you've made up your mind

<aside> 📌 If you are considering a promotion for an employee who is a Foreign National working pursuant to a visa, you must check with the Compliance Specialist and/or your HRBP to see if there are any considerations that must first be taken from an immigration perspective.

1️⃣  Create a doc that clearly outlines why you're making this decision.

<aside> 👉 This document should be built by the Manager, not the employee. Promoting People is part of a Manager’s role.

Use the Promotion doc template but don’t make the doc public yet.

Make sure you complete all the properties you can, including the effective date. Add a reviewer (usually your Manager) before jumping to the next step and your HRBP, just so they can review your document and come back to you with either the final approval or improvements to be made.

3️⃣  Once you’ve updated Rippling, your HRBP is notified. They will review the document. If there’s any issue, they will communicate it to you.
